Kamala Beach Phuket
– Everything You Need to Know About Kamala Beach
Kamala Beach lies just north of the lights and noise of Patong and is a quieter stretch of sand with a more relaxed feel. This well-enclosed bay and fishing village surrounded by forested hills is one of the most beautiful places in Phuket. With its quieter pace, over the last few years, Kamala has become a favoured spot for retirees and other longer-term visitors staying in small hotels, villas and apartment rentals around the village. On the headland to the south, are a number of luxury villa developments, with great views of Kamala Bay and beyond along its winding road. Whilst Kamala doesn’t attract tourists in the same numbers as other places it has a certain niche, those who do come say ‘we like it just the way it is, don’t tell anyone as they’ll all come and spoil it’.
What To Do In Kamala on your First Visit
During your first time in Kamala Beach, you are sure to fall in love with the quiet town’s relaxed atmosphere. Among the most family-friendly of the Phuket beaches, Kamala’s nightlife is more about fun shows than hedonistic partying. The long, pleasant, sandy beach is lined with a great selection of restaurants, with a good choice of budget and high-end choices available around the town. While shopping opportunities are fairly limited, they are more local-centric, giving you a genuinely Thai experience as well as some great bargains. Despite its great popularity with holidaymakers, Kamala has not been totally overrun with tourist-oriented establishments and parts of it still have a very local feel to it, particular the parts furthest from the beach. To help you make the most of your first visit to this relaxed destination, we have prepared this guide of what to do in Kamala in one day.
Best Places to Go at Night in Kamala Beach
The Kamala Beach nightlife may not be the most buzzing on Phuket’s west coast, but it hosts enough cool venues to satisfy mellow partygoers. The best night spots in Kamala include the most popular cultural show on the island: Phuket Fantasea, which everyday attracts thousands of visitors in its large Disneyland-like complex. The other interesting nightlife entertainment venues in Kamala present an eclectic choice of stylish and opulent lounges located in five-star resorts, unpretentious and friendly beer bars, sport bars and pubs, and even a cool rock ‘n’ roll bar. Kamala is pretty quiet, but it has enough quality venues to entertain its visitors at night.
Phuket FantaSea is a large entertainment complex located toward the northern end of Kamala Beach. Opened in 1998, Phuket Fantasea presents the biggest Thai cultural show in Phuket; the superb 3,000-seater Palace of the Elephants Theatre, inspired by an ancient stone palace of the pre-Sukhothai era, presents a daily show (closed on Thursdays) featuring hundreds of comedians, dancers, and acrobats, elephants and other animals on its 37m wide stage. The show blends Thai historical and cultural elements with fantasy, and is the most popular ‘man-made’ attraction in Phuket. The complex also hosts two restaurants (Golden Kinnaree and Suriyamas), and a park featuring – in the same vein as Disneyland parks – boutiques, handicraft demonstrations, beer gardens, tiger feeding, giant Mekong catfish feeding, safari adventure walk, and much more. Phuket FantaSea is a must-see attraction for the whole family in Kamala. Read More… Opening Hours: 17:00 – 23:30 every day except Thursday – Show starts at 20.30 Location: Kamala Beach
